Zone 3 Repeats as Summer Games Champs PDF Print E-mail

The first shift of the Alberta Summer Games in Peace River came to a close on Thursday, July 22nd. After 3 days of competition in Grimshaw, Zone 3 earned the gold with a 6 - 0 victory over Zone 5. This is Zone 3's fourth consecutive Alberta Summer Games title. In the bronze medal game, Zone 4 defeated Zone 6 by a score of 6 - 5. During this event, the AABC chose the top 20 athletes to represent Team Alberta at the Prospect Series September 3rd - 6th in Lethbridge. 2010 Alberta Summer Games - Peace River PDF Print E-mail

Peace River/Grimshaw is host to the 2010 Alberta Summer Games on July 19th to 25th. These Games are unique as they are being staged in two shifts. During shift #1, July 19 to 22, athletes will compete in Athletics, Baseball, Beach Volleyball, Canoe/Kayak, Mountain Biking, Inline Hockey, Rugby and Swimming. During shift #2, from July 22 to 25, athletes will compete in Basketball, BMX, Football, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball and Water Polo. The Opening Ceremonies will be held July 19 at the Peace River Agricultural Society Grounds in Northern Sunrise County to begin the Games. Closing Ceremonies, also at the Peace River Agricultural Grounds, will mark the end of the Games on July 25.

To be eligible to participate in the Alberta Summer Games, male athletes must be 13-15 years of age (born in 1995-1997), and must have attended one (1) AABC Talent ID Camp in 2010. Talent ID Camps are now completed, and the AABC would like to thank all participating athletes for their commitment to the sport of baseball.

Male and Female Baseball Results

The AABC was excited to have all 8 zones competing in male-baseball at the 2008 Alberta Summer Games.

The championship game was held on Sunday, August 10th, and resulted in a 12-7 victory for Zone 3 over Zone 5. The gold medal was awarded to Zone 3 Calgary, and the silver medal to Zone 5. Congratulations to both teams on a hard fought competitive week of baseball.

The bronze medal was awarded to Zone 1 after their 7-2 victory over Zone 2 on Sunday, August 10th.

The AABC was also proud to introduce female baseball into the 2008 Alberta Summer Games. The 4 female Zones that competed in the games were provided a tremendous experience, and they took full advantage by competing hard throughout the games.

The gold medal was awarded to Zone 3/6, as they defeated silver medalist Zone 4 by a score of 14-4. The bronze medal was awarded to Zone 1 as they defeated Zone 7 by a score of 11-7.

Thank you to the Alberta Sport, Recreation, Parks, and Wildlife Foundation for their hard work in making the Alberta Summer Games a success, and to the host city Medicine Hat who proved to be an outstanding host-city for the games as they provided us with great venues and accomodations.

There was great competition throughout the games, and the AABC would like to congratulate all teams, participants, volunteers, fans, and technical officals for all their hard work in making 2008 Alberta Summer Games a complete success.

Medicine Hat puts on a successful event

After three days of intense competition and an exciting array of entertainment, the 2008 Alberta Summer Games in Medicine Hat came to a close. 

More than 2,800 athletes, coaches and technical officials from across the province participated in 15 different sports, and more than 550 medals were handed out.

The Alberta Cup for most points accumulated over the competition was awarded to Zone 3 - Calgary.

Zone 3 – Calgary went home with the Minister’s Cup, which is awarded to the zone showing the greatest improvement from one Alberta Summer Games to the next.

The Spirit of Sport Award was awarded to Zone 1 – Sunny South.  They best represented the spirit of the Games and conducted themselves with integrity and good sportsmanship throughout the event.

Over two years of effort were put into planning and executing this premier multi-sport event.  Close to 2,000 volunteers did an outstanding job feeding, transporting and housing the athletes, coaches and chaperones.

The Alberta Summer Games are supported by the Alberta Sport, Recreation, Parks and Wildlife Foundation.  The Foundation partners with Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation and the Alberta Lottery Fund to provide a $350,000 grant to the host community.  The Alberta Foundation for the Arts also contributes a $70,000 grant for the cultural component of the Games.

The 2010 Alberta Winter Games will take place in the Lakeland Region February 4 to 7. The 2010 Alberta Summer Games will take place in Peace River and Grimshaw.
