The Edmonton Cardinals  claimed 1st place in the AABC's 16 & Under Tournament presented by Source for Sports, as they defeated Taber in a thrilling 4 - 1 victory on Sunday, August 16th at John Fry Park.

Taber was undefeated in round robin play as they defeated Grande Prairie, Calgary Babe Ruth, and the Lethbridge Spitz Canadians to claim 1st in Pool A and earn a trip to Sunday's championship game. There they faced off against the Edmonton Cardinals who were coming off a tough 9 - 8 loss to Calgary PBF Saturday afternoon which put them in a tie for first place in Pool B with the Strathmore Reds. The head-to-head tie breaker rule came in to effect, and the Edmonton Cardinals were awarded first place in Pool B because of their 8 - 1 defeat of Strathmore in round robin play. This is the Cardinals first 16 & Under Championship since 2005.

3rd place went to the Lethbridge Spitz Canadians with a 7 - 6 victory over the Strathmore Reds.

The Alberta Amateur Baseball Council would like to thank S.E.E.B.A and the City of Edmonton for hosting a successful and competitive 16 & Under Tournament.

AABC 16 and Under 'Source for Sports' Tournament PDF Print E-mail

The 2008 AABC 16 & Under Tournament presented by Source for Sports proved to be a complete success!

Down to the last at bat, down by one with two out, Levi Westerlund stroked a two-run game-winning double off Okotoks star reliever Shawn Anderson and secured the AABC 16 & Under Championship for Medicine Hat.

Okotoks had just retaken a slim 7-6 lead after a bases clearing triple by shortstop Adam Romaniuk. Medicince Hat fought back in the bottom half of the inning to put three on base, which set up Westerlund for his 2-out game winning double.

The 8-7 victory over the Okotoks Junior Dawgs at Athletic Park provided an exciting end to the talent identification tournament.

Third-place went to Lethbridge Spitz Canadians after they topped Red Deer 8-5.

Grand Prairie topped winless Calgary 11-1 in the fifth place game.
